If you are a mother who:
finds joy in making something with your own hands, longs to care for your family intentionally and holistically, or simply desires to flourish at home and be the best mama you can be for your children, you’ve come to the right place!

My name is Sara Borgeson. I’m so glad you’ve stopped by! I am the creator behind Make It Yourself Mama. This is the story of how I began my journey toward a creative, handmade lifestyle.
I’ve been married to my husband Joseph for 13 years, and together we have 4 precious children. We live in beautiful California where we enjoy the gorgeous variety of landscape, hiking and exploring together.
I’m a 2nd generation home educator. I grew up learning from home, curled up in front of a wood stove with a stack of books, or out on a hiking trail with my favorite field guides. From the time I was young I’ve enjoyed working with my hands.

When I was 13 years old, I entered my sewing in the county fair and won my very own sewing machine! It was a beautiful base model Husqvarna that served me well for many years.
From there my passion for sewing and slow fashion grew, and I now enjoy sharing from my many years of experience.
Make it Yourself Mama was born out of a passion for sharing ways to cultivate a creative lifestyle.
In an era of endless scrolling and consuming, let’s be mothers who practice diligent creativity at home.
Here you’ll find meals from scratch, sourdough recipes, sewing tutorials, slow fashion inspiration, homeschooling tips, and encouragement for living a natural lifestyle.
Thanks for being here!
Love,
Sara
